General manager of UMAX Technology, Tsai, Cheng-Yu, travels in the vast industrial automation field. Since he has taken an "atypical" path, the entrepreneurial process is also particularly fascinating.
Tsai established U-MAX 20 years ago. He said with a smile, "It was the time when I was back to Taiwan from the United States that my entrepreneurial dream was lightened up and U-MAX was born."
His background is hard to connect with the automation industry. Tsai studied art in high school, then pursued his undergraduate studies in Berklee College of Music, Boston, and played rock band in New York City. After back to Taiwan, he engaged himself in the entertainment industry as a professional "drummer". On the stage with dazzling sound and light, he became the one that accurately controlled the rhythm in the performance. However, in the end, he devoted himself to the stage of the development of the automation industry.

UMAX-TECH is a production factory and agent of automation components and holds a place in the market. At the beginning of his business, Tsai was committed to localizing Japanese automation components, and then expanded domestic and foreign sales with high-cost performance. He sold thousands of products such as mold components, gears, joints, slide rails, and screws under the brand of " UMAX-TECH ".

The turning point in the development of UMAX-TECH business is becoming the official agent of SAMICK Precision. Servo Cylinder is the core high-end component of equipment automation. It is an advanced product of linear bearing which can be controlled by a computer, and the whole process can be recorded.
Accuracy and thrust are better than oil cylinders and general cylinders and are widely used in industrial equipment. Those Features enable SMAICK to have long been a leader in the industry.
Tsai said that it took 70 years for SAMICK to become a world-class factory and a leading figure in the Korean automation industry. However, due to nationalism factors, as well as OEM contracts with well-known Japanese manufacturers, many products can only be sold to Korean companies. For a long time, Samsung has been the main customer of SAMICK, and Samsung also provided key assistance for the whole plant equipment when it built factories around the world, achieving the hegemony of the Samsung empire. In the meantime, UMAX-TECH seized the opportunity to negotiate with the Asia regional manager of South Korea's SAMICK, formed a strategic alliance to become a brother-in-arms, and became the Taiwanese agent of SAMICK Precision in 2014.

Those products of SAMICK mentioned in the last paragraph are the only ones that UMAX-TECH sells as an official agent. Still, UMAX-TECH can seize an important seat for SAMICK in the Taiwan market, having also promoted cultural exchanges and industrial cooperation between Taiwan and South Korea.
In early 2020, the pandemic hit the world, UMAX-Bio was established to obtain global orders and expand product lines. Offices are set in the United States and Vietnam. In 2021, U-MAX’s revenue for the year has reached 100 million Taiwan dollars. Tsai will keep on charting a new path for UMAX-TECH, moving towards the goal of tens of billions of revenue.
